opportunities to pray
About a week ago, I was reading/looking at a photoblog which I check often. The
photo of the day was one of a homeless man, who was gaunt, and so full of despair. The photographer wrote some of his own insights about the scene which he'd experienced.
As I looked at the man, I started to pray for him. And I spent several minutes just praying for blessings on his life. And that somehow, the hope of Christ's love would shine through the despair in his heart.
With that I realized some more about a few things I've been learning lately about prayer.
>> Prayer is always within my reach, and yet I rely on it way too little.
>> When there's nothing else I can do, I can pray. Not with that "it's the last resort" sorta outlook, but with confidence that I am handing whatever situation over to the most powerful and loving God.
>> Also, prayer can happen, no matter what the intended purpose of something might have been.
It's so exciting to know that because God is alive in me, I can look at/read a blog, showing a picture of a homeless person, and though I will most likely never meet the photographer, nor that man, God has given me a chance to exercise His power, by just taking time to pray.
"And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he's listening. And if we're confident that he's listening, we know that what we've asked for is as good as ours." 1 John 4:14, 15 [The Message]

I'm also being encouraged by what you're learning about prayer. God's been letting me know lately that I've had some people praying for me in the past and that is why I'm at where I'm at. Jesus spoke about letting our giving be done in secret. What more secret way to love someone than to pray for them? They'll never know about it (unless you told them, or they died and God showed them).
