living out equal excitement

As I mentioned before, I'd be adding more info on this blog name--"equal excitement". The idea for the name came after I heard a friend's sermon, with that very title. Soon after, I told him that I was working on starting a blog, and I asked him for permission to use that name. He gave me the go ahead, and so, here I am writing more about it.
One of the key thoughts/verses, is the verse which I have on the top right of this blog section. You might be familiar with another version of this verse which says, "This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it." [NIV]
The thought is that whatever is going on, good or bad, we can still rejoice, be glad, be festive, because we have this day.
In other words, the challenge really comes in, when something bad is going on. Can we still find the good in the bad.
In Kareem's sermon, he put it something like this...
When/if he gets a parking ticket, he gets so "excited" in a negative way. He spends so much energy being angry and frustrated at having to dish out some $115. Why not get super excited, or moreso, when he comes to his car and finds NO ticket?! And so he almost "earned"the $115.
Today, I was challenged to think about this again, in my own life/walk. The boys were driving me nuts, screaming, disobeying, whatever; my natural response, normally is to be angry, lose my cool, things which are not very becoming. I wasn't thrilled about the way they were behaving, and I wasn't cheery and thrilled either, but as I tried my best to deal with them, I kept thinking that I have 2 boys that are healthy and can play. I have 2 boys who are good and pleasant and well-behaved most of the time. I have 2 boys who like to play, and laugh and give me kisses.

Yes, I could be equally excited, or super excited about those facts. They sure deserve my excitement much more than those occasional moments of disregard.
God did make this day, and it was a good one, difficulties and all!

Ah, the lessons we need to learn!

Phoenix looks so different. He is really changing every day. I like his mohawk.
