Vacation

vacation ( P ) (v-kshn, v-)
n. A period of time devoted to pleasure, rest, or relaxation, especially one with pay granted to an employee.

We've been away from NY for some 10 days. We got back last tuesday/wednesday am.
Normally, when you have time off from work, and you go away, that is called vacation. If you'll notice the emphasis I've given to the above definition, vacation implies rest. Well, I wouldn't stay too much rest is part of a vacation of a family with toddlers. :)
I'd say, the definition is more like...
"a time away from home, when you attempt to find a way to visit new places, eat at a few good places, and enjoy each other's company, all, while juggling nap times, early wake up time, new routines, and none of the boundaries of home".

Yup, vacation with toddlers is not vacation in it's true sense of the word, but we did manage to have a good time.
Restful--far from it, but fun nonetheless.

We spent our time in Maryland, most of it by the Cheasapeake Bay. We had nice walks by the beach, we played ball in a big backyard, we watched "The Incredibles" some 4 times, we ate fresh steamed crabs, we went to a free zoo, we caught a glimpse of wild horses, saw lots of herons in the marshes, we shopped at Super-Walmart, we swam in the ocean, I got buried in the sand, and we spent lots of time with Abuelo, JoAnn, our new nephew[cousin] Seth, [cousin] Tabitha, and Tio Enoch and Tia Michelle.

I even managed to finish the first book of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, which I've been attempting to read for about 2 years.

It was a wonderful time, but next time I will know that REST, is not part of the vacation equation for our family.

p.s. check back for some related pics soon!

It sounds like it was a memorable vacation anyway. I certainly enjoyed spending some time with the boys. :)

Having babies changes so much! I feel like I'm always packing for a weekend getaway when I'm just going to the grocery store! You're a little more tired by the end of the day, but when all is said and done, it's just such a wonderful blessing!! I love being a mom!!! =0)

Vacation with toddlers = the necesary evil required to establish the family traditions that will carry your children through the 'rough' teenage/ young adult years. I remember traveling as a Single Dad with my two children: Zechariah (5) and Abigail (3) back to Kansas from Virginia by means of Dodge Caravan...Whew! The weariness I felt on the drive back home (virginia) was far outwieghed by the joy I felt because of establishing a tradition of visiting the Grandparents and extended family that brought me so much joy growing up. Because of my time in the Marine Corps, my children have only seen thier grandparents 4 times so far in thier life, two of which were when I drove them to Kansas from virginia. Now they know thier Grandparents and can recognize them in pictures and know what they do (jobs) and where they live. Thanks for sharing your views, Glaucia.
