art for art's sake...
I've been struggling for some time, with my desire to have more time to do artwork. Sure, I just wrote this long post, a couple days ago, about design work and it's frustrations, so you may be wondering why I'm having a desire for more time.
Well, when I say artwork, here, I specifically mean, hands on stuff. The stuff I went to school for. My first love. Drawing, painting. Not work on the computer.
One of the ways I'd been bridging that gap was thru photography. It's always been more than a hobby, and after aquiring a digital camera a few years ago, it had become a big artistic outlet for me, as I explored that medium. Several months ago, it died. I even blogged about it's death. I have been morning the loss ever since.
As I look forward to Phoenix being in school later this year, I'm really looking forward to the time I'll have to devote to art, and it's pursuit as a business.
But since that's not 'til summer at the earliest, and september, if potty training doesn't happen before then, I'm left with several months, in which to figure something out. I need to be happy with who I am, and whom God made to be. That, for me, includes more than just being a mom for Willik and Phoenix.
My solution... I started a sort of drawing journal. It's in a new moleskine notebook which I got before going to Indonesia, but never got to use it. The goal I've set for myself is to draw something, anything, everyday. Some days they can evolve into little paintings. Some days I might fill several pages with drawings. But for now, if I do one a day, I will be exercising my artistic and creative muscles. I will have fulfilment. My family will feel the difference.
I started 3 days ago, and I have done 3 drawings. I will be scanning the drawings, and posting some from time to time for your input. I welcome the constructive criticism. I'll let you know when that section is up.
I feel great. The boys are asleep. I gotta go draw something. :)

Hey, amor! I've been happy to see that you're drawing every day. A major reason I've been trying to clear out workspace for you is because I'm fully convinced that letting out your creative juices will relieve much undue stress.
Dad, Glaucia's been working on a Photo blog, and researching how to get it to look and feel the way she wants. It's a work in process, so I hope Glaucia doesn't mind that I post the link here:
